Lower School Student Life Coordinator

Job Description

At Classical Prep, the role of the Lower School Student Life Coordinator (LSSLC) is to provide high-level planning, organizing, and delivery of co-curricular and extracurricular programs for lower school scholars. The person in this role is responsible for developing, implementing, coordinating, and supervising a program of student activities and leadership opportunities and finding creative and innovative ways to build community by fostering parent involvement and positively promoting Classical Prep in pursuit of our school’s goals and mission.


Overview

  • Position: Full-time, year-round
  • Work Schedule: 7:30 am – 4:00 pm daily, 234 days, plus occasional nights and weekends as deemed necessary.
  • Salary Range: $38,000-$40,000
  • Benefits: Insurance benefits the first of the month following hire date of full-time employment, a 3% match of employee retirement contribution (after one year of employment), and 12 days of PTO.

Specific tasks required of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Coordinate and assist with the planning and implementation of student life and campus activities, developing processes and programs to enhance student engagement.
  • Support all lower school activities and events, including supervise volunteers for programs, events, fundraisers,  and activities.
  • Develop creative and innovative communication campaigns to publicize lower school Classical Prep events and initiatives utilizing various social media resources.
  • Establish and monitor Parent Standing Committee’ budgets . Track, record, and reconcile all event and purchases.
  • Create and maintain the annual schoolwide events calendar with the Upper School Student Life Coordinator,  including the scheduling of all events that arise throughout the year.
  • Recruit, engage, and place volunteers as needed for lower school activities and events. Schedule volunteer activity for on-campus and community events to support the various areas of academics and operations as needed for events, classroom help, facilities projects, etc.  
  • Foster relationships with Classical Prep staff and families
    • Build relationships through service and follow-up communication 
    • Conduct post-volunteer calls, emails, and surveys to track successes, collect data, and identify problems so that relationships are maintained, and system improvements can be implemented
    • Communicate with families by sending reminders and thank yous
  • Plan and implement formal and informal volunteer recognition activities to recognize the contribution of volunteers to the organization.
  • Plan, organize, promote, facilitate, and coordinate Classical Prep events and fundraisers for the grammar school scholars and families.
  • Attend and speak at information sessions, meet & greet, back to school night, and other events to promote volunteering and foster a sense of community among stakeholders.
  • Attend lower school staff meetings to review upcoming events and volunteer needs and get feedback from staff.
  • Pursue creative integration of ideas and entrepreneurial spirit regarding new fundraising and event opportunities and ideas.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop invitations, programs, banners, and other promotional materials needed to promote the school and for events and fundraisers.
  • Work with lower school staff to create a social media campaign to showcase classroom learning/activities, fundraisers, and events.
  • Communicate with stakeholders, including parents, students, and school leadership, to provide updates on student life programs and to solicit feedback and input.

Miscellaneous

  • Provide ongoing training to staff relevant to the areas SLC oversees. Prepare presentations and written communication to accompany the training.
  • Capture photos of events and fundraisers happening around campus.
  • Support Upper School Student Life Coordinator in his/her absence and  as needed. 
  • Work with Human Resources Director and Upper School Student Life Coordinator to plan staff holiday party.

  • Have strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Possess strong organizational, self-management, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrate high proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Canva programs
  • Have a minimum of two years work experience with event planning/fundraising/student life activities

  • Must be able to perform the physical aspects of the job such as climbing ladders; carrying items up to 35lbs frequently and up to 50lbs occasionally; continuously walking or standing for long periods of time (up to 8 hours)

Overtime Eligibility
This job is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Classical Preparatory School’s evaluation rubric.
