Classical Prep is centered on the time-honored trivium approach, which comprises three stages: grammar, logic, and rhetoric. At the Logic stage, scholars learn to use the foundational skills from Grammar (K-5) to develop their writing, thinking, and speaking skills. Our focus on critical thinking and teaching the liberal arts sets us apart from the traditional public school. Every scholar in Logic school will take courses in logic (critical thinking), Latin, music, and art. Teachers challenge scholars during classroom discussions to participate in inquiry and debate. This is why all middle school courses are honors-level. Rather than merely learning the facts in history, literature, arts, or science classes, scholars must think logically about the content they study. Writing assignments are assessed for style and quality of argumentation. Scholars learn to synthesize information across subject areas, beginning to look beyond their own narrow world and recognize and understand the viewpoints of others, both past and present.
In addition to our academic focus, we aim to fulfill our mission of creating self-governing individuals by focusing on building character through extracurricular activities and leadership opportunities. Scholars can participate in student government, yearbook club, jazz band, volleyball, basketball, and a host of other activities. We encourage our scholars to get involved in building our school community and, ultimately, their local communities.
