Custodial Maintenance Technician

Job Description

At Classical Prep, the Custodial Maintenance Technician, under general supervision and in keeping with school-wide sustainability efforts, maintains and repairs custodial and select school equipment, furniture, and facilities; performs routine custodial work; and performs related work as required.

Overview

  • Position: 12-month, Full-time, year-round non-exempt
  • Work Schedule: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM with one 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM shift weekly, 248 days, plus occasional nights and weekends as deemed necessary
  • Benefits: Insurance benefits the first of the month following 60 days dates of full-time employment, 3% match of employee retirement contribution, and 12 days of PTO
  • Reports to Facility Manager
  • Pay Range: $15.00 – $16.00 per hour

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of two years experience in custodial or related field
  • Working knowledge of cleaning materials and equipment

Preferred  Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Working knowledge of building systems, such as HVAC, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, and ground maintenance

Specific tasks required of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Performs routine custodial work such as: vacuuming, shampooing and spot cleaning carpets; removing trash in accordance with established procedures; cleaning, disinfecting and stocking paper and supplies in restrooms, locker rooms, other areas  as required.
  • Services and maintains equipment in the Custodial Department; performs minor electrical and mechanical repairs on custodial equipment.
  • Schedules, coordinates, directs, and performs routine and comprehensive custodial maintenance of assigned facilities.
  • Reports and responds to emergency calls for custodial assistance.
  • Prepares sites for special school events and helps with the setup and breakdown of school-wide events.
  • Participates in set-ups and moves of offices, classrooms and other areas.
  • Repairs, maintains, builds,  and installs furniture and selects equipment for general student and staff use; may reconfigure modular office furniture systems to meet individual ergonomic needs.
  • Receives and organizes all maintenance requests. Ensure that maintenance requests are responded
  • to and completed promptly. Communicates with necessary parties on updates throughout the
  • process.
  • Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and repairs minor to moderate plumbing and electrical problems; replaces a variety of light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, ballasts, and lighting accessories in areas of confined space.
  • Performs minor to moderate graffiti removal.
  • Installs classroom equipment such as shelving, maps, chalkboards, boards; paints workspaces as requested.
  • Installs and monitors pest-control devices; constructs barriers to help contain pest infestations.
  • Maintains inventory and submits written requests for supplies; tests and evaluates new supplies and equipment.
  • Submits purchase requests for supplies and parts for equipment and furniture requiring repair to the facility manager.
  • Operates power equipment such as golf carts, carpet extractors, pressure washer, hand and power tools and vehicles.
  • Performs preventative maintenance in and around facilities.
  • May direct the work of short-term, non-continuing, and student employees.
  • May supervise contractors while on campus.

  • Be able to work in heat, cold, damp, and dry conditions
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs,  stand, reach, bend, stoop, push, and/or pull
  • Ability to lift  items up to 35 lbs frequently and up to 65 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to continuously walk or stand for long periods of time (up to 8 hours)

Overtime Eligibility

This job is not exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act; therefore is overtime eligible.
