Did you know elementary students today are likely to have 10 to 15 minutes of outdoor playtime during the school day? No wonder there is an upswing in childhood obesity and an increase in childhood heart disease in type 2 diabetes. No wonder teachers are worried about a generation of children who cannot entertain themselves and have trouble paying attention in class. Research shows everyone - even adults - need a break in learning to optimize comprehension. This is especially true with younger children who need physical activity as an outlet. That's why recess is a crucial part of younger students' day at Classical Prep. We ask a lot of them academically; we want to give them time to burn off energy and come back reinvigorated to learn more exciting things!
