Ninth Grade Reading List

9th Grade: World History, Ancient Greek, Rhetoric  All rising 9th grade students must read the required book for their grade level and complete the following assignment: ● Reading Response Journal: This may be hand-written or typed (please double-space). Each journal entry should be clearly labeled.  ○ Write a 2-3 sentence response to each chapter (this is not just a summary but a response to what the author is suggesting about Aristotle and his philosophy).  ● Write a paper addressing the question: How does an understanding of Aristotle’s philosophy allow us to be (1) logical thinkers and (2) moral leaders? Your paper should be at least two pages typed (double-spaced), 12-point font, with 1-inch margins. 
 All rising 9th grade students must read one additional book of their choice from the approved book list at their grade level and complete the following assignment:
 
At Classical Preparatory School, we focus on the following habits: Attention, Memorization, Perfect Execution, Order, Reflection, Courtesy, Obedience, Truthfulness, Fortitude, Temperance. ● As you read your selected book, think about how one of the characters possesses or lacks these habits. Select one character and one habit, then write a paper explaining how this character possesses or lacks the habit. Use at least three examples from the book to support your points (include the page number for the examples). Your paper should be at least two pages typed (double-spaced), 12-point font, with 1-inch margins.
 
Each assignment will be turned in for credit on the first day of school.
